4 money questions I need to answer this year

I need to answer YES to these before I make any purchase

It’s the start of 2017 and I am determined to take all money decisions seriously.  I know it will REALLY be hard for the family to stay the course of discipline, but we have to persevere.  I’ve asked my girls to help the family stay firm with the belief that in 2017, EVERY MONEY DECISION IS A SPIRITUAL DECISION.

And why shouldn’t it be?  The Bible, in Psalms 24:1, says “The earth is the Lordʼs, and everything in it,
the world, and all who live in it”.

Let me share with you these 4 questions I ask myself before I make any purchase. I need to answer “yes” to each one BEFORE we get anything.

Sometimes it is a struggle, but we are determined to trust God, His generosity and His heart to bless us and provide our needs:

  1. Did I ask God’s permission to spend this amount now? The key to receive God’s permission to proceed is to begin with a budget and stick to it. If we did not budget for it, even if we have the money, I think we should not even ask His permission at all.  If you do not have a budget, I would suggest you find a mature, trusted and financially experienced friend to help you plan your budget. Then get a financial mentor to guide you in keeping your first budget plan effective for the family. It will be fun, I assure you, and it will bring your family away from the pressures and pitfalls of debt.Verse to remember: James 1:5 “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”
  2. Did I wait for Him to give me the permission to spend it? It is one thing to ask, but it’s totally different to wait for His reply.  However and whenever He decides is His prerogative, He is not accountable to us.  It’s His money, we are accountable to Him. So wait on the Lord to decide.  His timing is perfect.Sometimes waiting will mean delaying to get the things you really, really want.STILL, trust God, you will reap the rewards of waiting later.Verse to remember: Psalms 37:7 “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him.”
  3. Did I research where I can get the best product/service? As God’s trustee, we should exhaust all efforts to know everything important about what to purchase. We are blessed to have many ways to help us do diligent research. Sometimes I find great resources online, and sometimes I physically go to the local market for to see for myself.Verse to remember: Proverbs 21:5 “The plans of the diligent lead to profitas surely as haste leads to poverty.”
  4. Did I thank Him for providing for all my needs, even some my wants? God is our Great Provider, make every effort to remember His  generosity towards you and the family.Verse to remember: Deuteronomy 8:18“But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth”

It’s not easy, but it can be done. Ask God’s help to keep you on-track with your budget. He will help, ask Him, He will help.
